Open Educational Resources

Benefits of Open Textbooks

In comparison to traditional textbooks that have closed copyright and are usually expensive, open textbooks are freely available on the Web for anyone to access and use. Also, many open textbooks can be revised and customized to fit your instructional needs as long as attribution to the original source is provided (be sure to check the Creative Commons licence, if there is one, to see if it permits your specific use).

Increasingly, open textbooks are recognized as an affordable alternative to traditional textbooks for students. For example, the BCcampus Open Textbook Project estimated that it saved college and university students $1,450,300 to $1,839,126 in total.

Below are some reliable sources where you can find open textbooks and open academic/scholarly books.
