Tables & Figures
- Tables and figures should be number consecutively. For example,
- Table 1, Table 2, Table 3
- Figure 1, Figure 2, Figure 3
- If your assignment only contains one table, label it “Table”, or "Figure".
- Create a brief, but descriptive table and figure title.
- Use superscript Arabic numerals to indicate citations. List citation footnotes in numerical order, and provide the citation in you references.
- Tables may contain footnotes to convey information about the data. Represent footnotes with superscript lowercase letters in alphabetical order. See above example.
- List footnotes below the table, and place each footnote on its own line
- A legend or caption is displayed below, or beside the figure to describe its contents
- A legend or caption is typically written in 40 words, or less
Your professor may have different citing expectations than library staff. Always check at the beginning of term and before starting assignments that the citing rules you are using are appropriate for your class.
