Background Information

Background information generally includes information about the life of the author and the context in which the original literary work you are studying was created. This information can often be found in biographies, encyclopedias, dictionaries, and literary handbooks, as part of an introduction to a collection of original literary works, or at the beginning or end of a literary work itself. Sometimes, you can even find author interviews from magazines or other sources.

Search Tips

  • Use filters to narrow your search to specific types of content (example: books, reference, etc), or subject areas.
  • Search within specific fields. For example, look for the authors name in the Subject or Title field to find information about the author, rather than works by the author.
