Reading for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Sheridan Library has many books that tell stories from equity-deserving communities (both physical and in e-book formats). You can search for them using the library's search engine, Page 1+. One way to find books in our collections is to have a title or author in mind. Here are some ideas for finding both:

  • Browse our featured books, below.
  • Check out literary awards created for specific genres, such as the ALA Stonewall Awards given to LGBTQIA+ books. Start with the Literary Awards below.
  • Search Google or your favourite browser for recommended book lists.

Don't know a specific author or title? Here are some suggestions for searching with Page 1+.

  • Choose key words describing the community you are interested in (e.g., people with disabilities, immigrants) and combine it with a genre in the subject field, such as fiction or biography. Here is one possible search for biographies on people with disabilities, and another for LGBTQ fiction
