Cover Letters Guide

Middle paragraph(s)

This section should be one or two paragraphs.

Points to consider including in this section:

  • What you have to offer to the employer? Focus on what you can do for them, rather than why you want the position. 
  • Connect their needs or requirements and your skills and/or experiences. 
  • Highlight your key skills and education as they relate to the employer and job requirements.  
  • Use this section to portray confidence in your ability to succeed in the position.
  • Any additional information that could add value to your application should be included in an additional paragraph.

Closing paragraph

This section should:

  • Summarize your suitability for this position.  
  • Reinforce your confidence to meet the challenges of this position. 
  • Thank the employer for considering your application.
  • Express your desire to meet at an interview.

Signature  

  • An appropriate closing, for example “Sincerely,” or “Best regards,” should be used.  
  • Consider using a digital signature.  Your name should be typed under the digital signature.
