Knowledge Mobilization

What is Knowledge Mobilization?

Knowledge mobilization means moving knowledge into action which involves:

  • building awareness of your research activities
  • enabling the use of your research results
  • facilitating dialogue with professionals, partners, and other stakeholders

From the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (2019), "knowledge mobilization is an umbrella term encompassing a wide range of activities relating to the production and use of research results, including knowledge synthesis, dissemination, transfer, exchange, and co-creation or co-production by researchers and knowledge users" (para. 2). For a description of knowledge mobilization, learn from Dr. Vcki Mowat, Director of Research Generator at Sheridan by reviewing this short video.

Knowledge Mobilization Plans

Many research funders such as the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) requires a knowledge mobilization plan. There are many examples on the web of knowledge mobilization plans, but one for your referral is from Research Impact Canada who developed a Knowledge Mobilization Planning Template.
