The Art of Research

Don't limit your creativity to what you find on the Web! Explore library, gallery, museum and archival materials whether you're researching visual references, historical styles, cultural context, or contemporary perspectives. Note that:

  • Delving deeper in your research can help you create contextually accurate, compelling and original visuals as an artist
  • Doing background research can help you make more intentional and meaningful choices by understanding the 'why' behind what you and other artists before you were drawing
  • Browsing and flipping through pages of books and magazines can also lead to serendipitous discoveries of images that are different from the results based on the algorithms of search engines and AI tools
