Original works consist of the original prose, poetry, drama, or films that are being studied. They may include Novels, Poems & Short Stories, Theatre & Play Scripts, or Films. In literature studies, these types of works are often categorized by:
- time period (ex. 18th-century literature),
- by culture, country, or ethnic group (ex. Canadian literature),
- or by genre (ex. historical romance).
