Open Access (OA) advocates for research to be distributed freely, immediately, and online so that anyone around the world can access, use, and build on the information, without being excluded by a pay-wall or copyright restrictions. OA includes access to open science, open data, open education (including zero-cost textbooks and educational tools), and open journals and books.
Open access is central to Open Science, and Open Science is central to sharing information on climate change. The recent UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science recognizes that the world needs to work together to solve complex challenges such as climate change so that everyone - regardless of where they live, their gender, and their access to digital infrastructure - has access to the best science available. Watch the video below to understand how open science can create a more equitable and inclusive scientific community.
