Top tips for conference networking

Attending an event or conference

Questions could include:

  • Could you tell me a bit about yourself and your role, and your key responsibilities within your current organization?
  • Can you share your own career story?
  • What are the top three skills needed to succeed in the workplace?

Think of an interesting story or anecdote about something you did in your work or education to introduce yourself. It's important to make personal connections with people. Ask them questions to show you're genuinely interested in learning more about them, their position, or their work.

Networking event etiquette.

Don't hog the conversation - people love to talk about themselves, so be attentive. Show that you are listening to what they have to say and acknowledge at least one key point from what they shared with you.

Stick to this goal and research at least that number of people or companies attending. It will give you motivation and a sense of accomplishment when you achieve your goal.

Be sure to contact anyone you spoke to withing the next 48-hours by phone, email or LinkedIn to acknowledge your connection!
