This guide is intended to help students and faculty at Sheridan find images for their research and assignments. Find lists of image resources from library databases and on the web, as well as search tips to help you search more efficiently.

Legal Use of Images for Educational Purposes

A majority of the images within this guide are copyright-protected. Under Fair dealing or licence terms of the library subscribed databases, students and faculty can generally use the images (or link to images) for school projects, instructional materials, or other internal educational uses. For merely decorative use of images, or for projects that will be made publicly available, go to Creative Commons & Public Domain Images to find sources of images with no or less copyright restriction.

When using an image, be sure you:

  • Know who the original creator of the image is
  • Check for any copyright or licensing restrictions (visit the page on Copyright Guidelines for Images for more information)
  • Provide credit to the source

If in doubt, avoid using images where the licensing or copyright is unknown.
