The Material ConneXion database is an online searchable collection of materials. The database includes all materials in the in-person library PLUS thousands more innovative, future-forward materials with information on:

• Manufacture location and contacts
• Processing and Applications
• Material Properties
• Sustainability Aspects

Search Tips

There are two ways to search for materials: browsing by category or by using keywords. Filters on the right of the Material ConneXion screen will narrow your search.

1. Browse by category  

Material ConneXion organizes material by material composition. Learn about categories here. Each category has been broken down into sub-categories on the browsing bar, making it easy to explore a smaller group of materials. Here is an example from the Natural category showing the subcategories of biopolymers, papers, bambook and woven textiles. 

2. Use the search box to search by keyword:

Use the search box when you know

• the name of the manufacturer;
• the name of the material; or
• the Material ConneXion number for a specific material

You can also use the search box to search for keywords to describe the material you are looking for:

• Keep key words simple and try variations such as 
  • wall, walls, wall covering;
  • door, doors;
  • floor, floors, flooring, resilient flooring

• Material ConneXion uses words found in the descriptions of material records to retrieve materials by keyword. For greater accuracy, note the last sentence in material descriptions: "Applications include ..."
  • This sentence includes words, such as walls, doors, floors, that you can use in keyword search.

Create an Account

For best searching results, create a Material ConneXion account by signing in. Use your Sheridan College e-mail account. This will allow you to:

• See the manufacturer contacts
• Save/Share materials
