Summon User Guide

Summon is a one stop search that allows you to access thousands of different library resources through a single search box.

  • Search across multiple library databases to find books, journals, newspapers, videos, and more.
  • Limit results by date, content type (book, journal, etc.), subject, etc.
  • Limit results to strictly peer-reviewed/scholarly material, and exclude newspapers.
  • Limit results to items available in Full-Text Online or in the Library Catalogue.
  • Use boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), and phrase searching (" ")
  • Generate APA, MLA, or Chicago style references
  • Options to export to Refworks or email the result to yourself

Having trouble defining your research topic? Not able to contact the library at the moment?

Keep your eye on the right side of your Summon search results.  When you do a search you may be presented with helpful information for defining your research topic:

  • An overview of your research topic
  • Contact information for a librarian knowledgeable about the topic
  • Related topics that might better fit your research question
  • Research guides providing insight into the topic

If you need additional help identifying a research topic, check out our Academic Research guide.
