OER Guide

Finding Relevant Resources

Finding relevant OER is similar to doing literature research. The availability of OER varies depending on the subject matter and course level. There are more OER for lower-level or foundational type of courses. Here are some search tips that may be helpful:

  • Conduct searches on the specific topics covered in the course
  • Try different keywords in your searches
  • Search in multiple repositories
  • Look at multiple resources and select what is relevant from each one, if you are not able to find the perfect OER for your course
  • Consider compiling your own digital course pack with materials from multiple OER (see Sheridan Library's eCOR service

Reach out to your Liaison Librarian for more guidance on finding OER!

There may not be OER suitable for your course or the OER you found are not sufficient to cover the curriculum. To still provide cost-free and customized course materials, you could:

  • Utilize copyrighted materials from the library print and electronic collections and on the Internet; OR
  • Supplement OER with copyrighted resources

Sheridan Library's eCOR service can help if you want to mix and match OER with copyrighted resources!
