OER Guide

OER and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Sheridan is a participating institution in the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Canada. This network of universities, colleges, and research centres aims to develop and promote solutions that contribute to United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Open educational resources and practices can help the Sheridan community in contributing to SDGs such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships (SDG 17) by:

  • Providing students cost- and barrier- free access to quality educational resources
  • Improving the relevance and currency of course materials for curricula and students' interests
  • Creating opportunities for students to determine what and how they want to learn
  • Encouraging the inclusion of perspectives from under-represented or marginalized communities
  • Connecting educators who want to share their works and collaborate in an open environment

These objectives are also aligned with the priority areas of Sheridan's 2024 Strategic Plan. Learn more Sheridan's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals
