Usage terms of library databases

To share ebooks, online articles, streaming videos, etc., from Sheridan Library's databases, the best practice is to use persistent links. Persistent links ensure on- and off- campus access to the materials and may be posted in SLATE.

While linking is generally allowed, the licence terms of some databases do not permit downloading and re-posting PDFs in SLATE. To check what is permitted for a resource:

  • In Summon, click on the "Permitted Uses" link for the resource you're interested in. See below for an example.

  • The "Permitted Uses" information is also available on the A-Z Databases List.

Please contact Sam Cheng, Open Education and Copyright Librarian (copyright@sheridancollege.ca), if you have a question about whether you may use a licensed material for your teaching or scholarly purpose.
