Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts. According to Hay (n.d.) self-perspectives and other negative beliefs are often the cause of our health problems, therefore using positive affirmation approaches has the power to change our lives and health. There is MRI evidence suggesting that certain neural pathways are increased when people practice self-affirmation tasks. Positive affirmations also help us to respond in a less defensive and resistant way which in turn, makes us more resilient to difficulties when they happen (Moore, 2019). Self-affirmations can be practiced as frequently as you may need or find helpful. There is no one way to use these.

Examples of positive affirmations:

“I believe in myself, and trust my own wisdom”

“I am a successful person”

“I am confident and capable at what I do”
