Power of yet

In developing a growth mindset you want to remind yourself that failing and making mistakes are opportunities for growth. Carol Dweck in her TED talk: the power of believing that you can improve, mentions a story of a high school where they did not provide students with grades. Instead, if they did not pass a course, they received a “not yet”. Carol Dweck relates the power of “yet” back to those with growth mindsets as they see the word "yet" as giving them confidence to continue and persist with their learning, making mistakes and correcting them. Those with fixed mindsets look at a challenge, don’t engage and give up. This is shown through studies of the brain measuring electrical activity; those with fixed mindsets show hardly any activity in the brain, where individuals with growth mindsets are firing with yet!
