Failure vs Life Lesson Activity

The failure/life lesson activity is a great way to  help us reflect on failures in our life and a life lesson we learned from that failure. There is no one way to fail, so this is completely personal as to what is a failure to you.

In the first column, Failure, list 3 failures you have experienced. Now, in the right column, Life Lesson, list what you have learned from each of those failures. Once finished, fold the paper in half lengthwise and tear down the middle so you have failures in one hand, and life lessons in the other. Now, you have a decision to make, you can:

  • Keep the failures and discard the life lessons (reminding yourself of your failures)
  • Keep your life lessons and discard the failures (reminding yourself of your life lessons)
  • Keep both your life lesson and failure (reminding you of when you failed and what you learned)
  • Discard both your life lesson and failure (reminding you that you acknowledge you failed, you learned from it and now you are moving forward!)
Failure Life Lesson
Example:
failed statistics midterm class
Example:
asked for help and met regularly with a tutor for one-on-one help to pass my final exam; I learned that sometimes I need to ask for help and that when I work hard and get the support I need, I can succeed
